Unlike North Indian diamond-style charts, traditional Tamil Nadu Jathagam charts use a fixed-sign 12-box square grid.

In this format, the signs never change positions:

• Mesham (Aries) is always the second box on the top row.

• Rishabam (Taurus) is the third box on the top row.

• Kadagam (Cancer) is the rightmost top corner, and the sequence runs clockwise around the perimeter until Meenam (Pisces) at the top-left corner.

When you examine your Jathagam chart, identify two crucial notations:

1. Lagnam (லக்னம் / ல / Ascendant): Marked with 'ல' or 'Asc'. This indicates which zodiac sign was rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth. Lagnam is designated as House 1 (முதல் வீடு / ஜென்ம லக்னம்), and all 12 houses are numbered clockwise from it.

2. Chandran / Moon (சந்திரன் / ச): The box where the Moon is placed is your Janma Rasi (ஜென்ம ராசி).

Each house from Lagnam represents specific life domains:
